BUSINESS EDITION

You reap what you sow.

Sow resentment, and you will harvest resentment. Sow envy, and envy comes back.

Business is not a battle. Business is a game.

And games are won by how you carry yourself, not by how hard you hit.

The next pages hold fifteen sentences. None of them are new. All of them are hard.

You don't have to believe them. Just try one.

Move. Don't stop.

Life is no Battle, it's a Game

In preparation

  1. 01

    Stay in it

Success is rarely spectacular. Mostly it is the ability to do the unpleasant part one more time.

Most people don't quit because it got impossible. They quit because it got boring.

Stay when it turns slow, and one day you are the only one left. That is the whole point.

  2. 02

    Speed of action

Today's second-best decision beats next month's perfect one.

The market will not wait for your certainty. Decide at seventy per cent.

The missing thirty only shows up once you start moving.

  3. 03

    Create value, solve problems

Nobody pays for effort. Everybody pays for a problem that went away.

Don't ask what your product does. Ask what hurts without you.

Answer that, and you no longer need a sales pitch.

  4. 04

    Be different

Do what everyone else does, and price is the only thing left to argue about.

Being different costs you customers early. It saves you discounts later.

The question isn't whether you stand out. It's what for.

  5. 05

    Have fun

If you hate the work, you will never do it well enough to stop doing it.

Joy is not a bonus for good months. It is the fuel for the long stretches.

If you have been looking forward to the exit for a year, you picked the wrong game.

  6. 06

    Share fair

Win alone and you win once.

The share you give away is what loyal people cost. It is cheap.

After the third fair deal you stop looking for partners. They find you.

  7. 07

    Build a value ladder

A good customer is not a close. It is an opening.

Give them a second step. A third. Something that only makes sense once they know you.

With one product, you buy every euro of revenue twice.

  8. 08

    Act on your values

A value that only holds when it's free is not a value. It's a slogan.

Your values show up in the week they cost you money.

That week is coming. It comes for everyone.

  9. 09

    Respect, trust, reliability

Three things you only lose once.

Call back when you said you would. Deliver on the day you named.

It is deeply unspectacular. And it beats any campaign.

  10. 10

    Lead by going first

People follow what you do. Never what you say.

Want your team early? Be early. Want them honest? Name your own mistake first.

Culture is the sum of what the boss actually does.

  11. 11

A winner is a loser who tried once more

Everyone you admire has a list of things that did not work.

You only ever see the last line.

The difference is not talent. The difference is the next attempt.

  12. 12

    Keep moving

Fast or slow — but don't stop.

Standing still feels safe. It is the only motion that teaches you nothing.

A small step in the wrong direction beats no step at all.

  13. 13

    Sell emotion, not facts

Facts justify the decision. It was made before they arrived.

Nobody buys a drill. Everybody buys the picture that ends up on the wall.

Describe how it feels once the problem is gone. Then bring the numbers.

  14. 14

Think big, start small, scale fast

The goal is allowed to be outrageous. The first step has to happen this week.

Think big and start big, and you burn cash before you know if it holds.

    Prove it first. Then push.

  15. 15

Gentle in words, firm on the matter

Being firm on the issue does not require being hard on the person.

People who get loud have usually run out of arguments.

Say no kindly. But say no.

„A hand to the wrist. One breath. Keep going.“
